Teacher Education (B.A. and Certificate)
The Teacher Education Program (PEM) is a response to the needs and aspirations of a society in constant change and the regulations requirements of Teacher’s Certification of the Department of Education of Puerto Rico. Based on the 2012 Vision, Mission and Goals of Inter American University of Puerto Rico, the concept of the educated person who has the institution and professional standards that characterize the teaching professional, PEM provides a set of integrated educational experiences. We address the professional training of a teacher of excellence, that is, that can contribute effectively to produce estimate changes desirable in their students, aware of educational problems in Puerto Rico and able to collaborate in processes of change that will improve their quality of life and that of others.
Teacher preparation stresses on the development of those skills and attitudes which make possible the formation of critical, flexible, and creative minds; minds set out from the educational theories capable of identifying and solving problems; conduct investigations to solve them; proposes appropriate responses and verifies them constantly through experimentation.
The new vision for preparing teachers involves a study plan that provides an articulated experience curriculum that provides spaces for the construction of pedagogical knowledge and content that will develop the future teacher. These experiences will be characterized by continuous reflection, practices in realistic scenarios, research, and collaboration, the relevance of content, pedagogical modeling and the search and use of tools that allow solutions to problems of the teaching-learning processes in different contexts. In this curriculum will be integrated components of general education, major, as well as the core component.
